Exchange 2007 Installation and Administration
Duration: 5 Days
Overview: At the end of this five-day course, students who are new to Exchange Server will learn how to install, configure, and manage a messaging environment in accordance with technical requirements. Students will learn how to install Exchange Server 2007 and manage mail routing, client access (including Outlook Web Access), transport rules, and journaling. Other topics covered include creation and management of recipient objects such as mailboxes, distribution groups, and contacts; anti-spam configuration with emphasis on the Edge Transport server role and EdgeSync; and backup and recovery of Exchange mailboxes and servers in a variety of disaster scenarios, including coverage of Dial-tone restorations and the new Local Continuous Replication and Clustered Continuous Replication features. A high-level overview of PowerShell is also covered, with examples of appropriate PowerShell commands interspersed throughout the course. The Unified Messaging component is NOT covered in this course, and neither are migration topics.
This course is a combination of MOC courses 5047, 5049, and 5050.
Objectives:
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe how Exchange Server 2007 and Active Directory work together
- Install Exchange Server 2007
- Configure Mailbox Server roles
- Manage recipient objects such as mailbox-enabled users and groups
- Manage e-mail address lists
- Manage various client access methods (POP, IMAP, MAPI, HTTP) and the Client Access Server roles
- Manage Hub Transport Server roles
- Maintain the message system.
- Manage anti-spam features.
- Configure Edge Transport Server roles
- Implement messaging policies.
- Recover messaging databases.
- Prepare for and recover from Mailbox server failures, including disk failures
- Prepare for and recover from non-Mailbox server failures.
Audience:
No experience with any previous version of Exchange Server is necessary. IT professionals who are preparing to install and/or migrate to Exchange 2007 from other email platforms (GroupWise, Lotus Notes, etc) are the perfect audience, as are professionals who have had very limited exposure to Exchange in the past, but find that their future responsibilities will require more specialized Exchange knowledge. The prospective student should have at least 3 years experience working in the IT field-typically in the areas of network administration, help desk, or system administration.
Prerequisites:
- Working knowledge of the Windows Server 2003 operating system. For example, knowing how storage is configured, basic backup and restoration techniques, NTFS permissions knowledge, and basic group usage (global, domain local, etc) would all be very useful concepts to understand before attending class.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, to include user account management, Active Directory partitions and their usage, basic architectures (domain, forest, sites, etc.), Global catalog usage, and domain controller management. Of extreme importance is having at least a high-level understanding of what sites and site links are, and how domain controllers use sites for replication.
- Microsoft Management Console (MMC) - procedure for adding snap-ins
- Active Directory Users and Computers console usage
- Active Directory Sites and Services console usage
- Internet Information Services (IIS) Administration console experience would be helpful but is not required
- Conceptual understanding of DNS
- Conceptual understanding of firewalls.
